What Cookies and Similar Technologies Are<\/h2>\r\n<p class=\"cl\"><strong>2.1 Cookies<\/strong> are small text files a website asks your browser to store. On your next visit the browser sends them back, which is how a site recognizes you, keeps you signed in, or counts you as a returning visitor rather than a new one.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"cl\"><strong>2.2 First party, third party, and duration.<\/strong> A <strong>first party<\/strong> cookie is set by geovea.com itself. A <strong>third party<\/strong> cookie is set by another company whose code runs on our pages, such as Google or Stripe, and is governed by that company's privacy policy as well as ours. A <strong>session<\/strong> cookie disappears when you close your browser, and a <strong>persistent<\/strong> cookie stays for a set period, which for the cookies described here ranges from a few minutes to two years.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"cl\"><strong>2.3 Similar technologies.<\/strong> We also use, or are exposed to:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li><strong>Local storage.<\/strong> The Geovea app stores some things in your browser rather than in a cookie, including your map view, units, interface preferences, and unsaved work in progress. It stays on your device, we do not receive it as a cookie, and clearing your site data removes it.<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Pixels in email.<\/strong> Our marketing emails contain a small tracking image that tells us whether the message was opened and which links were clicked. Our account, billing, and security emails do not. Section 8.3 explains how to stop it.<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Third party script hosts.<\/strong> Some code on geovea.com is loaded from public content delivery networks (code.jquery.com, cdnjs.cloudflare.com, cdn.jsdelivr.net, npmcdn.com, and maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com). These set no cookies, but your browser's request tells each host your IP address and the page you were on.<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Web fonts.<\/strong> Both sites load fonts from Google Fonts. No cookies are set, but Google receives your IP address in the request.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<h2 id=\"s3\">3. Why There Is No Cookie Banner<\/h2>\r\n<p class=\"cl\"><strong>3.1<\/strong> We do not show a cookie consent banner. That is a deliberate decision, not an oversight.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"cl\"><strong>3.2<\/strong> Consent banners exist so people can refuse advertising and profiling cookies. <strong>We do not set any.<\/strong> What we set is a small number of cookies that either keep the Services working or count visits, and United States law does not require prior consent for those. Cookies on geovea.com<\/h2>\r\n<p>This is the marketing site and the trip planning platform. We group the cookies by what they are for rather than listing every one by name, because names and durations are set by the providers and change without notice to us, and a list that has quietly gone stale is worse than an honest description of what each group does. If you want to see exactly what is set on your own device at any moment, your browser will show you: Section 8.1 says where to look.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"cl\"><strong>4.1 Keeping the Services working.<\/strong> These are strictly necessary and cannot be switched off from within the Services. They keep you signed in and hold your session, support <strong>Sign in with Google<\/strong> where you use it, let <strong>Stripe<\/strong> run fraud checks and hold a checkout in progress on payment pages, let <strong>Cloudflare<\/strong> tell a real visitor from a bot and remember that you passed a security challenge, and let <strong>Google reCAPTCHA<\/strong> protect our forms from automated abuse. Most are short lived. The sign-in ones last as long as your session or until you sign out.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"cl\"><strong>4.2 Understanding how the site is used.<\/strong> We use <strong>Google Analytics 4<\/strong> to count visitors, see which pages and features get used, and find out where things break. These cookies distinguish one browser from another so we can count people rather than page loads, and they last up to two years. They do not identify you by name.<\/p>\r\n<p>Google Analytics is configured with <strong>Google Signals off<\/strong> and <strong>advertising personalization off<\/strong>, so this data is not used to build advertising audiences, is not exported to Google Ads, and is not used to target you elsewhere. Section 8.2 links Google's own opt-out.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"cl\"><strong>4.3 Measuring our own advertising.<\/strong> We advertise on Google search. One Google cookie, lasting about 90 days, tells us whether an ad we paid for led to a sign-up, so we can tell which ads are worth the money.<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>This is measurement, not targeting.<\/strong> It counts a conversion after you arrive. Remarketing and personalized advertising are switched off, so we do not build audience lists from your visit, we do not send audiences to Google Ads, and we do not follow you to other sites with ads. <strong>We run no Meta, LinkedIn, TikTok, Pinterest, or ad network pixels of any kind.<\/strong> If you would rather not be counted at all, Section 8.2 tells you how.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"cl\"><strong>4.4 That is the whole list.<\/strong> There are no advertising, profiling, social media, or data broker cookies on our sites, and no session recording or heat mapping tools. If that ever changes, Section 3.3 says what we will do first.<\/p>\r\n<h2 id=\"s5\">5. Cookies on our blog<\/h2>\r\n<p>The blog at geovea.com\/blog is a WordPress site and is deliberately much lighter than the main site.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"cl\"><strong>5.1 WordPress.<\/strong> WordPress sets preference cookies for <strong>signed-in Geovea staff<\/strong> so the editing tools remember their settings. Ordinary readers do not get them. If you leave a comment and ask us to remember you, WordPress stores your name, email, and site so you do not have to retype them next time.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"cl\"><strong>5.2 Counting readers.<\/strong> We use <strong>Jetpack Stats<\/strong> (Automattic) to count blog page views. It records page views, referrers, and country level location, and does not set tracking cookies for ordinary readers.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"cl\"><strong>5.3 Why you may still see main-site cookies on a blog page.<\/strong> The cookies described in Section 4 are set at the geovea.com domain level, so your browser will show them on the blog too. <strong>The blog itself does not send anything to Google Analytics or to Google Ads.<\/strong> There is no Analytics tag and no advertising tag on it. If you follow one and book, we may receive a commission from the supplier or its affiliate network.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"cl\"><strong>6.2<\/strong> Following an affiliate link may set a cookie on the supplier's or the network's own domain, or pass a tracking parameter in the destination URL, so that a booking can be credited to the referral. <strong>That tracking is theirs, not ours.<\/strong> It happens on their site, under their cookie and privacy policies, and we do not control how long it lasts or what else it does.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"cl\"><strong>6.3<\/strong> What we receive back is normally a transaction identifier and a commission amount, not your name.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"cl\"><strong>6.4<\/strong> A commission never affects what we show you, where it appears, or how it is ranked, anywhere in the Services, including in search results, listings, Trip Ideas, The Daily Feed, and anything our AI tools generate. Nobody can pay us for placement. Section 3.3 of the <a href=\"\/blog\/terms-and-conditions\/\">Terms<\/a> is the full rule.<\/p>\r\n<h2 id=\"s7\">7. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control<\/h2>\r\n<p class=\"cl\"><strong>7.1 Do Not Track.<\/strong> Browsers have never agreed on what a Do Not Track signal means and there is no accepted standard for honoring it, so we do not respond to it. We are telling you plainly rather than staying silent.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"cl\"><strong>7.2 Global Privacy Control.<\/strong> We honor the <strong>Global Privacy Control<\/strong> signal where the law requires it. Because we do not sell personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, there is nothing for it to switch off, but we will keep honoring it and it will keep working if that ever changes.<\/p>\r\n<h2 id=\"s8\">8. How to Control Cookies<\/h2>\r\n<p class=\"cl\"><strong>8.1 Your browser.<\/strong> Every major browser lets you see the cookies a site has set, delete them, block third party cookies, or block all cookies. Look under Settings, then Privacy or Site Settings. Blocking strictly necessary cookies will break sign-in, payment, and forms.<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Chrome: Settings &gt; Privacy and security &gt; Third-party cookies<\/li>\r\n<li>Safari: Settings &gt; Privacy<\/li>\r\n<li>Firefox: Settings &gt; Privacy &amp; Security<\/li>\r\n<li>Edge: Settings &gt; Cookies and site permissions<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>Private or incognito windows discard cookies when you close them.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"cl\"><strong>8.2 Google Analytics and Google Ads.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Install Google's <a href=\"https:\/\/tools.google.com\/dlpage\/gaoptout\">Analytics opt-out browser add-on<\/a> to stop Analytics collecting from your browser on any site.<\/li>\r\n<li>Manage what Google's own advertising does with your account at <a href=\"https:\/\/myadcenter.google.com\">myadcenter.google.com<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/adssettings.google.com\">adssettings.google.com<\/a>.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p class=\"cl\"><strong>8.3 Email tracking.<\/strong> Unsubscribe from marketing email using the link at the foot of any of it. Most email apps also let you block remote images, which stops open tracking everywhere. Account, billing, and security messages are not marketing, contain no tracking pixel, and continue after you unsubscribe.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"cl\"><strong>8.4 Location.<\/strong> Explore Around Me and similar features ask your browser for your device location. Your browser asks you first, you can refuse, and you can withdraw the permission at any time in your browser's site settings. We do not build a location history from it.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"cl\"><strong>8.5 Local storage.<\/strong> Clearing site data or cookies for geovea.com in your browser also clears our local storage.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"cl\"><strong>8.6 Deleting your account.<\/strong> Delete your account at <a href=\"\/delete_account\">geovea.com\/delete_account<\/a>. Section 9 of the <a href=\"\/blog\/privacy-policy\/\">Privacy Policy<\/a> explains what happens to your information afterwards. Deleting an account does not remove cookies already on your device, so clear those in your browser as well.<\/p>\r\n<h2 id=\"s9\">9. Regional Information<\/h2>\r\n<p class=\"cl\"><strong>9.1 United States.<\/strong> Sections 4 and 5 are our disclosure of the tracking technologies we use. <strong>We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising<\/strong>, including of anyone under 16, so there is no \"Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information\" link on our sites, because there is nothing to opt out of. Section 11 of the <a href=\"\/blog\/privacy-policy\/\">Privacy Policy<\/a> sets out your rights under California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas, Oregon, and other state privacy laws, and how to exercise them.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"cl\"><strong>9.2 Canada.<\/strong> Under PIPEDA and provincial law, including Quebec's Law 25, you may ask what we hold, correct it, and withdraw consent. We do not use cookies for profiling and we do not make automated decisions about you. Complaints go to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or your provincial regulator.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"cl\"><strong>9.3 EEA and the United Kingdom.<\/strong> Under the ePrivacy rules, strictly necessary cookies may be set without consent, and analytics cookies normally require it. <strong>We do not ask for that consent, and you should know it.<\/strong> Our European and UK traffic is limited and occasional, we set no advertising or profiling cookies, and our analytics is configured without Google Signals or advertising personalization, so the information at stake is visit counts rather than a profile of you. If you are in the EEA or the UK and would rather not be counted, use the Google Analytics opt-out in Section 8.2 or block third party cookies for our site, and both work immediately. You may also email <strong><a href=\"mailto:hello@geovea.com\">hello@geovea.com<\/a><\/strong> and ask us to exclude you.<\/p>\r\n<p>You have the rights described in Section 11.4 of the <a href=\"\/blog\/privacy-policy\/\">Privacy Policy<\/a>, including access, erasure, and objection, and you may complain to your supervisory authority or, in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office. We have not appointed an Article 27 representative, for the reason given in the Privacy Policy, and we handle requests directly.<\/p>\r\n<h2 id=\"s10\">10. Changes to This Policy<\/h2>\r\n<p>We may update this policy as the Services change. For a material change we will give at least <strong>30 days<\/strong> notice by email or in product before it takes effect, and we keep the \"Last Updated\" date current.
